'Twilight' DVD Sells 3 Million Copies on Day One

In utterly unshocking news that I feel compelled to post because it's about Twilight and will therefore receive slightly more traffic than most stories, the DVD of the Kristen Stewart/Robert Pattinson smash hit sold three million copies in its first day of release.

That's roughly on a par with the numbers The Dark Knight did. Reports of midnight release parties -- I shudder for any poor father who had to drive his daughter to one and witness hysterical teenage girls and their mothers all wearing "Team Edward" shirts -- flooded the 'net after it was announced that the DVD would be released on a Saturday and not the usual Tuesday.

The sequel, New Moon, hits theaters this November. If you think that's a rush job, they're only waiting seven months before releasing the third installment, Eclipse, in summer 2010.
