Tom Cruise wants to do M:I-4

Remember when Viacom chairman Sumner Redstone basically fired Tom Cruise from his long-standing relationship with Paramount, and he went off to head United Artists with his producing partner Paula Wagner?

Then remember how United Artist's first new movie, Lions for Lambs, made less than negative eight U.S. dollars? And its next movie, Valkyrie, is getting a ton of bad buzz because of a so-so trailer and a release date that keeps getting pushed back?

Ethan Hunt to the rescue!

According to Digital Spy, Cruise has been having some conversations with Redstone and Paramount about returning to do a fourth Mission: Impossible film. The article goes so far to say that as soon as a script is finished, the project will get the go-ahead.

If you're recalling that the third Mission: Impossible was a flop, well, that's what everybody said at the time, but it was actually a big misconception. While the film made a middling $134 million in the U.S., it made a whopping $400 million worldwide - one of the ten best of the year, and better than much bigger domestic hits like Superman Returns or The Pursuit of Happyness.

And by the way, Cruise does have one giant ace in the hole - a supposedly hilarious cameo in August's comedy Tropic Thunder.
