The Christian Bale scandal: the whole story (so far)

Nothing like a really ugly scandal to cast a shadow on that movie you have out that's raking in money faster than any other movie ever.

News has been pouring out all day across the internet about Christian Bale allegedly charged with allegedly assaulting his mother and sister, allegedly, allegedly, you get the idea. So far, here's the rundown:

Part 1: News breaks that early last night, Bale's mother and sister called the police to file a complaint that "suggested" Bale assaulted them on Sunday. After The Dark Knight's Leicester Square premiere that night, police bring in Bale and question him for four hours, then release him. The police ordered Bale to return to deal with the matter in September.

Part 2: Bale's publicist releases a statement:

Christian Bale attended a London police station today, on a voluntary basis, in order to assist with an allegation that had been made against him to the police by his mother and sister. Mr. Bale who denies the allegation, co-operated throughout, gave his account in full of the events in question, and has left the station without any charge being made against him by the police. At this time, there will be no further comment by Mr. Bale.

Part 3: The rumors start flowing. The most interesting by far stems from comments made in the comment section of a JustJared article (thanks to The Bad & Ugly for the heads up):

His mom and sister are alcoholics and drug addicts, they showed up at his hotel uninvited and highly intoxicated. they were calling him big shot and that he needs to take care of his own. His mom was yelling that he would be nothing without her and he owed her. His sister was begging for money and when he was pushing her toward the door his mother came from behind and started hitting him on his head and kicking him. He managed to push them both out the door and his mom fell, they called the police and wanted him arrested. I believe that Chirstian is the victim here not his mom or sister

My father works security at the hotel, and he said it was a mess. His mom and sister wanted the front desk worker to let them into his room to wait for him. When they were told no they started cussing and yelling. they sat in front of his door for an hour until he finally arrived.

Obviously I hope that the last bit is true and that Christian Bale really is the stand-up guy that he has always appeared to be. But with barely any real information, it's far too early to judge this one; give it a few days and the real story will come out.

if his mom & sister are on drugs then he is not obligated to support their habbit.Who knows he may have given them $$ and they may have squandered.He may have paid bills for them & they don't appreciate it.We don't know what's going on.Its a personal family matter & I admire him for keeping it as such. When his mom & sister get clean they will appreciate it to.

Well basically I agree with the above comment, If his mother and sister are substance abusers, this can make for a very difficult situation for Mr. Bale. Being an ex-user myself, and having knowm numerous users, I know that people can become quite desperate and vindictive in situations when they are in need of [whichever] substance. I need to add to this that the person's behaviour in such circumstances is only a magnification of their natural behaviour, drugs and alcohol do not make thieves and monsters of people who did not have that capacity in the first place. I pity Christian Bale and support him fully.
