Taylor Lautner Gets to Keep His Job

The botch that has been Summit Entertainment's PR handling of their Twilight success was given a slight abatement as it was announced that Taylor Lautner, a.k.a. Jacob, gets to stay on for the next movie, New Moon.

Jacob doesn't have a very big role in the first movie but is basically the male lead in the second, as Edward (Robert Pattinson) disappears for long stretches. Summit OK'ed Lautner's casting in the first movie, and the fan base accepted him, but then it was leaked that they were close to firing him right around the time they fired Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke in favor of The Golden Compass director Chris Weitz. Word is they didn't think he was buff enough to play Jacob.

If they weren't sure about him, why didn't they veto him when he was cast in Twilight? Because they're not very smart.

Anyway, congrats to Lautner, and have fun in the gym 24/7 between now and when New Moon starts shooting in March.
