Shooter: A Movie Review

Shooter.jpgIs there a more perfect specimen of manliness than Mark Wahlberg? Even his third nipple is sexy, for the love of god.

I went to see "Shooter" today (with field reporter John) pretty much on the strength of Marky Mark's hotness. And, much in the same way as I responded to "Invincible", I was surprised that I actually liked it.

I'm not going to lie, they could have used someone to cut the crap on the dialogue, which caused a few snickers. However, the shit that blows up is fairly innovative, and the sniping shots are way better than in "Jarhead". And the napalm scene? Haven't seen anything like that since "We Were Soldiers Once..."

My primary problem with this movie is the cheesy patriotic dialogue. I think it was unnecessary - I don't think that many people wholeheartedly trust their country anymore so you don't need to make Swagger into a whackjob who lives off the grid reading the 9/11 Commission Report, especially since his country clearly betrayed him once.

And the names, sweet Jesus, the names. Bobby Lee Swagger? (Wahlberg does some excellent slo-mo swaggers out of an airplane hanger and away from an exploding building.) Nick Memphis? (Played by a dude who is in fact hispanic, though who I thought was Indian (from India) for the first, oh heck, for the whole movie.) Jack Payne? (Played by Elias Koteas, who I love love love from "Some Kind of Wonderful".) A shout out here to Kate Mara, who did a wonderful job in "We Are Marshall", and an excellent job in this film, too.

I think it was worth going to see in the movie theatre. Let me know what you think!
