Well....at least they play real songs with a real group of musicians that can kick some serious musical ass (now if only about 20 million "American Idol" viewers can stop pining for another year of 125 renditions of Motown and Neil Sedaka tunes and take a look.)

Mind you, I think I know why those viewers have not arrived. Mark Burnett tends to hit home runs in non-docu-drama reality television but, boy, did he get some kind of brain fart with his selection of hosts for this one or what?

Brooke Burke projects all the personality of a damp sponge. Groupies have their place in rock 'n roll but nobody of sane mind would ever think of giving one a TV show hosting stint. She's so glued to her teleprompter that I have actually prayed for some production wonk to type something in like "In a moment, I'm going to flash my breasts on live TV and body surf across the first ten rows [remove top]" and watch the fireworks fly.

Now, before I get death threats from the Foo Fighters Fan Club, I'll admit that Dave Navarro is a good songwriter and musician. But he clearly has no business being a judge of anything. INXS has a half dozen musicians in the band. Surely, there are enough of them to provide insightful commentary rather than giving generous amounts of microphone time to the over-tattooed scary-looking dude who comes across as speaking about music like Britney Spears can speak about quantum physics. I guess marrying the Prince groupie who stayed married to Dennis Rodman for about nine hours will do that to you.
