Damn – wrong holiday! I had Nick ‘n’ Jessica “formally” calling it quits on Christmas Eve. Oh well.

I think of this as a boost to reality TV. Who would have thought that a television show was all that kept this marriage going? Anyway, it had to happen. Papa Joe knew that the over-emotive marginal singing talent of a daughter (as opposed to the tone-deaf spitfire Ashley) could only sell albums with the MTV show on the air. Now that he’s under the serious delusion that Jessica has acting (!) talent, what better way to generate the bucks than to push for the oh-so-Hollywood thing of a marriage break-up?

Next up for Jessica is to locate some middle-tier actor with potential upside and few “weirdo” elements (in other words, Joaquin Phoenix need not apply). In fact, I’m sure Joe has already been in touch with Jake Gyllenhaal’s management team.

By the way, I’ve got Jessica clocked at the 13-minute mark on the 15-minute fame clock. That gives her an excellent shot of being a Playboy playmate by the end of 2008. Stay out of Papa Joe’s bathroom when that happens....
