Oprah basically gives Tom Cruise a lifetime achievement award

Tom_Cruise-Oprah.jpg

Tom Cruise's recent appearance on Oprah - his first after the couch-jumping that kicked off his long, long round of bad publicity - turned into a praise-fest that resembled a lifetime achievement award ceremony: they were celebrating "25 Years of Starring Roles," and Cruise was treated to a series of videos of his famous friends (Jamie Foxx, Dustin Hoffman, et al) paying tribute to him.

Long story short, it was the same old Cruise we always know: lots of grinning, lots of intensity, not much else. Here's the million dollar question: why does a guy who clearly hates the prying into his personal life let said personal life get so over-exposed?

Perhaps in a tie-in effort to regain popularity, Cruise just launched his own website, TomCruise.com. It features a clip reel, filmography, and even - ooh - a "message from Tom" in which he explains how he loves movies.

I love his movies. I love him in his movies, too, for real. I just sometimes wish we could leave it at that.
