Mark Wahlberg feels the heat

Everybody on the upper East Coast enjoying the heat wave? They say it's going to end tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure it hit 100 degrees in New York City, which folks in the South might laugh at but certainly had me sweating my butt off. (Hey, at least we don't break out the winter coats and cancel school when it drops below 70.) In fact, the heat actually knocked out my Internet connection for the past couple of days. Don't ask me how, but it did.

The Happening's New York City premiere was held tonight, and all the major players were there - sweating - to support the movie: Mark Wahlberg, Zooey Deschanel, John Leguizamo, and director M. Night Shyamalan. Deschanel's publicist kept handing her a napkin to help stop her makeup from melting.

I was there covering the event for my day job, so I was lucky enough to see the event unfold firsthand. A crowd of onlookers popped up across the street - mostly girls with their friends or mothers - hoping to catch a glimpse of Wahlberg. They weren't disappointed. When the star showed up, he got out of his car right in front of them to wave hello before heading for the red carpet. He seems like a really nice guy - too bad the movie is bad.

After the umpteenth red carpet interview, Wahlberg finally got down to near where I was standing. "I'm hot, hurry up," he jokingly told a reporter. She pointed out that the inside of the theater - just a few steps away - would be air-conditioned. "I know," he said. "I can feel it, but it's not quite enough."
