Katherine Heigl "totally annoying and self-righteous"?

I'm no Grey's Anatomy fan, but I thought Katherine Heigl was terrific in Knocked Up. It felt like a real, honest performance, so it was hard not to be disappointed a few months later when I found out Heigl was quoted as saying the movie was "a little sexist." Disregarding the very real point that the movie single-handedly made her the star she is, making her comment the biggest example of biting the hand that feeds you I've ever seen, I've watched it three times now and am thoroughly convinced that it's one of the least sexist movies in recent times. But I digress.

Heigl recently struck again when she publicly withdrew her name from Emmy consideration for Grey's Anatomy because, and this is a direct quote from her, "I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination." Many people agree that Grey's Anatomy was at a creative low point this past season, but it's a question of tact: once again, she's biting the hand that feeds her. Here's a tip: if you want to get the good storylines on your TV show, publicly insulting the writers is probably not the best way to do it.

This time, New York Magazine picked up on the story and ran with it with a rather no-holds-barred editorial, in the form of an open letter to Heigl:

We actually groan aloud when your perky face appears onscreen! There’s a theory we have about this, Katherine, so listen closely. Have you ever thought that maybe the writers are incorporating your own personality into that of your character? Because we read a lot of women’s magazine and gossip sites, and we think we kind of know you at this point. And guess what? You’re totally annoying and self-righteous, just like Izzie!

And it ends on this note:

Grey’s Anatomy is a soap opera. Get off your high horse, missy. You talk all about the integrity of the Academy? Ha! You know they’re giving an Emmy to a reality-TV show host this year, right? Stop pissing off your writers and directors and castmates. We want to like you, Katherine, really. Please stop making it so hard to do so.

Agree/disagree?
