Joaquin Phoenix's Letterman Appearance

My delight at bizarre celebrity talk show appearances reared its head again this week as Joaquin Phoenix went on Letterman and proceeded to baffle Dave, the guests, and the rest of America. He barely said anything, he mumbled, he repeated that he was serious about his rap career, and yep, he still had that gigantic beard. At one point, neither man said anything for 27 seconds. Yeah, it was that weird.

EW.com nabbed a quote a while ago from a supposed Phoenix friend who told them the whole thing was a Charlie Kaufman-style hoax. That's still what I believe, and it's unclear whether Letterman was in on it or not (my guess is no -- by the end of the interview, he starts getting a little annoyed). But just see for yourself:

If you're wondering about that Farrah Fawcett reference, check out EW's line-up of past bizarre Letterman guest appearances.
