Jessie Spano joins S. Darko

So you guys heard there was a Donnie Darko sequel in the works, right? No? Well, apparently it's called S. Darko, and focuses on the late Donnie's little sister Samantha - now all grown up into a teenager, but still to be played by Daveigh Chase from the first movie. War of the World's Justin Chatwin and Gossip Girl's Ed Westwick co-star, and the original writer/director, Richard Kelly, does not have anything to do with the project. Always a great sign.

Anyway, Elizabeth Berkley, a.k.a. Jessie Spano from Saved by the Bell, just joined the cast. As you might remember, Berkley may or may not have had a promising career post-Bell until she starred in Showgirls, one of the most universally mocked movies ever made. Since then she's mostly scored guest spots on TV shows and starred in TV movies I've never heard of. Which also gives me confidence that S. Darko will be an atrocious cash-in a terrific creative success.
