Jessica Simpson's Just Big-Boned

The above picture (among others) of Jessica Simpson looking like she's gained a few pounds are only a day old, and already there's a backlash over whether or not the gossip-mongers are being too mean.

"Jessica Simpson is becoming part of this trend we call body-bullying," People's Galina Espinoza told Today, while Ashlee Simpson publicly defended her sister and even Kim Kardashian claimed Simpson's new look was "hot."

I get that Hollywood has a problem with weight and discriminates against normal-sized women in favor of girls just this side of anorexia (actually tune in to 90210 to see what I mean), which then sends a horrible message to both girls everywhere susceptible to anorexia and guys who get a warped image of what a woman is supposed to look like. It's a major problem -- and I applaud actresses like Kate Winslet who proved that while stick-thin twentysomethings are a dime a dozen, you can draw the line in the sand to not become unhealthily skinny and still look gorgeous the way you are.

That said. We live in a world of out-of-control paparazzi, where one of the most popular sites on the internet features celebrities with semen drawn on their face using Microsoft Paint. If everyone has this image of Jessica Simpson in their heads:

...then obviously people are going to be talking about it when she abruptly gains a significant amount of weight. C'mon.
