Headline! Headline! The Good German Not So Good After All!

good_german.jpgThis reporter has just returned from a showing of the retro film The Good German at the appropriately retro Bytowne Cinema in Ottawa, Canada. The film is a black and white monstrosity that is not only a ripoff of Casablanca, but a poor experiment in bringing the 40s back.

This reporter wants to ask Steven Soderbergh exactly why he wanted to bring the 40s back when moviegoers could just watch a real 40s movie that would have a plot that you couldn't forecast five minutes into the movie and actors who can actually, you know, act.

Mr Soderbergh was not available for comment. Mr Clooney, star of The Good German (though neither good nor a German in the film), will be no doubt nominated for some award somewhere titled "How to get your ass kicked repeatedly and bounce back later the same day with nary a limp or an ouch". Mr Maguire, recently of Spiderman fame, has yet again proven that he has only one expression. Ms Blanchett, an Oscar winner, should have her Oscar revoked.

This reporter urges people not to spend two hours of their life that they'll never get back on this film. Instead, see some other World War II classics such as The Longest Day, The Eagle Has Landed, perhaps even The Best Years of Our Lives.

Signing off,
A bored and frustrated reporter
