Gossip Girl spin-off? Not so fast...

News that the CW was developing a Gossip Girl spin-off featuring the Jenny Humphrey (Taylor Momsen) character was quickly squashed by executive producer Josh Schwartz: "Not sure how this got out there, but no plans for spinoff at this moment. The books do have a spinoff [series, The It Girl], but we have nothing in the works right now other than making sure season two gets off to a great start."

This isn't surprising given that, despite the constant stream of news and buzz about Gossip Girl from the media, the show ranked 195th this season. 195th. At 2.3 million viewers per episode according to the Nielsen ratings, it's on a par - and actually slightly down - from the ratings-deprived Veronica Mars, which lasted three seasons.

Then again, thanks to DVR and Internet viewings, perhaps it's time to call out Nielsen for its gross inaccuracies in the face of changing times and business models?
