David Slade Will Direct 'Eclipse'

eclipse-book-cover.jpg

After some rumors came and went that The Orphanage's Juan Antonio Bayona would helm Eclipse, the third Twilight film (apparently he was offered but declined), Summit Entertainment is going with director David Slade.

It's a slightly offbeat choice probably designed to telegraph that Summit's willing to take risks with the franchise; Slade directed 30 Days of Night, 2007's mostly boring Alaska vampire movie, but he also directed Hard Candy, an extremely disturbing story about a pedophile who brings a fourteen-year-old girl home with him.

If it seems like we're talking about Eclipse too early because New Moon hasn't even come out yet, think again. Thanks to Summit's insane release schedule, Eclipse is set to come out only a year from now, in summer 2010, seven months after New Moon's November release.

That flick is currently being shot under the direction of Chris Weitz, who apparently wasn't crazy enough to agree to direct two Hollywood blockbusters being released half a year apart.
