Chris Brown and Rihanna...

We finally got through the Christian Bale mess after Bale's radio mea culpa made things die down...and now it's time for the next ordeal.

Chris Brown is only 19 years old. And whenever I've seen him on TV, he's come across like a pretty upstanding, poised guy.

But, by now you know: Brown turned himself into police at 6:30 p.m. -- right before he was supposed to perform at the Grammy's -- while under investigation for domestic abuse and making criminal threats. At first, the L.A. police didn't identify the female victim of the domestic abuse, but it has now surfaced that it was indeed his girlfriend, 20-year-old pop star Rihanna, who was also supposed to go to the Grammy's and also missed it.

TMZ isn't always the most reliable source, but apparently they talked with the cops involved:

Law enforcement sources have now gotten specific with us… police took pictures of Rihanna’s injuries and they are “horrific.”
As we reported, the photos show major contusions on both sides of the singer’s face — there is serious swelling and bruising. Her lip is split and her nose bloody. We have now confirmed there are bite marks on one of her arms and on several fingers [...]

Rihanna refused treatment at the scene, but before she left cops took photos.

Over the past two days, the "Got Milk" campaign killed its sponsorship of Brown, and Wrigley's Gum is "suspending" theirs. Brown has hired lawyer Mark Geragos, who in the past has defended both Michael Jackson and Winona Ryder.

When Brown was just breaking out, I had a job at a middle school, and almost every girl there had an enormous crush on him.
