Borat rolls on

Borat_Sagdiyev.jpgI'm glad to see Borat continue to score at the box office while offending and entertaining in equal measures. Like many others, I questioned the wisdom of opening in relatively few theatres, but it doesn't seem to have had much of a negative impact on revenues.

Sacha Baron Cohen's "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan" took in $29 million to remain the No. 1 movie for a second straight weekend, distributor 20th Century Fox said Sunday. "Borat" raised its 10-day total to $67.8 million.

While 20th Century Fox maintains that the limited opening was all part of the marketing plan, I fall with those who believe that expectations were simply low. The "I told you sos" directed at the film studio would be a little more satisfying if not for the fact that nobody is happier they were wrong than 20th Century Fox itself.
