Batman Sues Batman

File this under "people who do stupid things who should probably know better"...

There's a province in Turkey called Batman. The biggest city in the Batman province is also called Batman (pictured, above). The city has recently gone on hard times, with high unemployment and a string of murders and suicides. Its mayor, Hüseyin Kalkan, has decided the best way to bring his city good press and solve its economic problems is to sue Christopher Nolan, director of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

What a brilliant idea.

Why not sue the creators of Batman or DC Comics, or even Warner Bros.? Apparently Kalkan was smart enough to know that his city missed the time period in which they could object to the name of the seventy-one-year-old character, but not smart enough to realize he didn't have a case against the most recently hired director of the Batman movie franchise. It's like suing Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Way to strike the iron while it's hot.
