Angels & Demons won't go to church

The team behind the currently-filming Angels & Demons has been barred from shooting inside two churches in Rome by the Roman diocese. And the diocese is being pretty open about the reasons why.

"It's a film that treats religious issues in a way that contrasts with common religious sentiment," a spokesman told the Associated Press. "We would be helping them create a work that might well be beautiful but that does not conform to our views."

They have a point, since Angels & Demons is the sequel (yeah, the book was a prequel, but the movie is a sequel) to The Da Vinci Code, which many Catholics found sacrilegious because it posited that Jesus was a mortal who got married and had kids.

The two churches in question are Santa Maria del Popolo and Santa Maria della Vittoria; the diocese is still letting them shoot the exteriors.

By the way, the woman in the set photo above with Tom Hanks is Israeli actress Ayelet Zurer.
