America's Got Talent (but could use a little imagination)

bianca%20ryan.jpgI can forgive the title, which would jell a bit better with the English language if they had gone with "America Has Talent," but I'm a little disappointed with the lack of imagination shown by the voters.

An 11-year-old Philadelphia girl with grown-up singing skills captured the finale Thursday of NBC's America's Got Talent— and claimed the $1 million prize.

To be sure, Bianca Ryan has a pretty damn impressive voice, especially for an 11-year-old, but it's unfortunate that this had to turn into another singing contest.

Between American Idol, Nashville Star, the Rockstar series and several others, it seems like the gamut of singing contests had already been covered. Where are the prizes for the truly amazing people who can change clothing quickly, do bird calls or shoot arrows with their feet?

I think the next iteration of the show should forbid singing of any kind, if for no other reason than to preclude the lame set-up that ended with Hasselhof taking the stage himself.
