I see that post-partum depression is breaking out all over

Eat, and be not so merry

I see that postpartum depression is breaking out all over. I suppose this a welcome relief from the acting community bestowing all these weird names on their newborns guaranteeing them decades of therapy from about the time they turn 13.

First, Brooke Shields decides to throw out a book on the subject that was so self-indulgent and outright nauseating that it would make Celine Dion and Kirstie Alley jealous. Now Carnie Wilson chimes in.

I suppose this is some attempt to put Tom Cruise in his place. As amusing as this is - countless tabloids enjoy these pot shots since, if they took them themselves, Mr. Cruise's attorneys would be filing lawsuits faster than you can say "Scientology Bites", it got me thinking as to what postpartum depression is really all about.

If there's a common thread between Shields and Wilson, it's that they ate like pigs throughout their pregnancies. Sometimes you have to wonder if pregnancy, to some, is a free ticket to eating 70 pounds worth of Double Quarter Pounders with Cheese and Dairy Queen Blizzards without guilt (the old "hey, I have to eat for two" saga which might mean something if you're dreaming of cramming a 30 pound whale out your uterus but I digress.) They also didn't excite a pile of paparazzi to get that elusive picture of the new "enfant terrible" thus affirming their D-level or worse celebrity status. Now they both face the task of losing weight quickly to slow the ticking of the final minute on their 15-minute clock.

That's depressing for them. And depressing for me to mention it. This probably cost me a ticket to appear on Oprah. I guess I'll pop a couple of vitamins and get over it. Tom will be proud.
