15-Minutes Of Fame Tracker: Kate Hudson
In honour of the recently opened "The Skeleton Key", it's time to put the blonde somewhat-of-a-bombshell under the microscope.
Clock slowing factors:
1) Daughter with some acting pedigree (Goldie Hawn)
2) Daughter with actually good acting pedigree (Goldie Hawn)
3) Had ultra-cool part (Penny Lane) in ultra-cool movie ("Almost Famous"). Even better, played "hooker/groupie with heart of gold." You can make a career out of that in Hollywood (at least until you turn 40.)
4) Was not given a first name by her parents that would send her straight into therapy by age 8.
5) Remembered same when she gave birth to her own kid.
Clock acceleration factors:
1) Married lead singer of a band that has as good a chance as any appearing in the second episode of the fifth season of "Hit Me Baby 1 More Time" (Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes)
2) Has acted in one pile of superfluous dreck ever since the ultra-cool one. Maybe your date thought that "Raising Helen" was real cute but face it - that date is more likely to be the one who slashes her wrists because of a bad Jennifer Weiner book than the one that gets you laid.
3) Has increasingly shown that she's not going to sustain a viable career like Mom. Really needs to hit the new film out of the park (Reasonable odds. Even crappo horror can win a weekend box office if released during a dead period.)
Put the numbers together and she's about at the 5-minute mark and rising by about 1-1.5 minutes a year. Unless she caves in to Playboy (which might slow it down to a 45-second rise per year), she needs a good film real soon. Otherwise she's about where Bridget Fonda was 10 years ago. Anybody who can remember what Bridget Fonda has done in the last 10 years without calling her agent needs to realize that the life of a caveman is not the way to go.

I think that I'm the only person who wasn't even crazy about 'Almost Famous.' Maybe it was the hype and build-up before I got to see it but it just didn't do it for me.
And as embarrassing as this is, I like Kate most for 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days' which is so NOT my usual type of movie, but when she sang 'You're So Vain' in it, I decided that she was fantastic. Not so fantastic that I saw anything that she was in since then, but anyway...
General note, unrelated to Kate's ticking clock: Fantastic writing on this blog. Keep it up -- it's awesome!
